Secret Gift Journey

Rules and squares

Everything the game does, on one page. The TV applies every rule for you, so nobody has to remember them.

Setup

A game has 2 to 32 players. Each player brings a wrapped gift and puts it under the tree.

Each player picks a name of up to 16 characters and one of 50 avatars.

In the lobby, the host chooses the board and whether everyone rolls 1 or 2 dice.

The board

Boards have 40, 70, or 100 squares, each with its own number of ★, ☠ and 🛡 squares:

Your turn

On your turn, roll on your phone. Your token moves that many squares along the trail.

Where you land decides what happens. A ★ square draws a lucky effect and a ☠ square an unlucky one. On a plain square, a player without a gift takes one from the tree; with a gift, nothing happens.

The effect is drawn from the ones that fit your situation: whether you hold a gift and who is near you. The TV shows it, and your phone asks when there is a choice to make.

The squares

  • Lucky square: draws a lucky effect.

  • Unlucky square: draws an unlucky effect.

  • Plain square: without a gift, take one from the tree. With a gift, nothing happens.

  • 🛡 square: while you stand on it, no other player can take your gift or your place.

Your first gift

The first time you land on a plain square without a gift, you choose how to get one.

Your first gift: steal one from another player or take one from the tree.

Effects in a row

Some effects move you forward 2, 3, or 5 squares and you land again, so another effect can follow. At most 3 landings in a row count; then the chain stops.

Every other effect ends your move: going back squares or moving to another place never lands you again.

🛡 squares

Players on a 🛡 square are safe: no one can take their gift, trade gifts with them or swap places with them.

Each board has a few 🛡 squares spread along the trail, always on plain squares.

Finish and reveal

A player who reaches the finish keeps their gift, and no one can take it from then on. A player who arrives without a gift takes one from the tree.

The game ends when only one player is still on the way.

Then the TV shows every player in finishing order and who takes home which gift.
